Opinion Gun ownership is just as much about our right to defend ourselves from our own government as it is to protect ourselves from any other threat. Our government would like nothing more than to disarm it's people so that it has complete control of us. They have slowly been trying to do just exactly this. Look what happened when the Germans disarmed the Jews, as the best example of why there needs to be a clear distinction of who works for who (government works for the people).
