Checks and balances in the U.S. have been broken for a long time, and need to be restored! They may fix most of major problems with our government.

There's a reason the office of president has a 2-term limit. For the same reason, all elected officials should also be limited to at most the same period of time (8 years), and preferably shorter. The progressively more abusive politicians have become is a clear indication of why term limits are needed.

Anyone charged for a crime who adamantly claims to be innocent, should be given more consideration for proving their innocence. And circumstantial evidence should not be the sole reason for proving their guilt.

The TSA is completely over the line. When everyday people, and especially kids, are groped by agents in the name of national security, it's the TSA that are the terrorists.
Ask yourself what value the TSA has when it's impossible to hijack a plane now that pilot doors are impenetrable.

Voting district boundaries have historically been redrawn to someone's advantage, and the system needs to be overhauled. The rules on how the boundaries are formed need to be automated such that no person makes the decision.

Any prosecutor or district attorney that pleas a deal that is inconsistent with the will of the people, or doesn't pursue charges against someone that should be charged, should be held accountable for the injustice they have caused. The injustice may very well leave the public in danger.

Likewise, any improper pursuit of justice that causes the wrong person to pay the price, due to knowingly suppressing evidence or carelessly failing to discover reasonable leads, should also be held accountable for the negligence. Having someone locked up just because a D.A. is concerned about their record is criminal.

Criminals should not be given lighter sentences or early release due to medical issues.

Police should never fire more than one round at a suspect unless a threat is known to have a gun and they can see the gun raised in a direction of threat to someone (police or bystander).

The government should fund an independent group to run a website or other form of information sharing that can be used by candidates to submit their platform, ideals, stances, issues, promises, etc. The site should then allow for side-by-side comparison of each, and track the changes made during office and whether promises were fulfilled.

Elected government representatives should only take direction from those they represent in a way that represents all of them, as uniformly as possible. Lobbyists that don't represent their constituents uniformly should be abolished, as well as corporate sponsors and special interests.

Money, perks, or any other influence, taken from anyone other than those who elected them, should be considered bribes.

It's pretty pathetic that the president of the United States earns only $400,000 a year. We should pay the president like a CEO with a base salary closer to $10,000,000 or $20,000,000; with incentives for things like lowering the deficit, low executive order count, lowering inflation, lowering unemployment, cross-party collaboration, etc.
The first lady should earn a healthy wage too, depending on her involvement.

When officers use deadly force under the guise of a perceived deadly threat, only to find out there was no threat, it is natural to perceive the presence of an officer as a deadly threat.
This vicious circle is self-defeating to all police enforcement, and must be stopped.

There seems to be a new unwritten addendum to one of our laws. A person is innocent until proven guilty, unless they are a public figure accused of a crime.
Usually the assumed crime was: committed long ago, quickly revealed by the press, and quickly judged by the entire country.
The punishment is a guilty verdict in everyone's eyes, and usually termination from their jobs or roles.

As congress decides the taxes imposed on the rest of us, we should be the ones who decide the taxes *and* pay rates for congress.

Lethal injections used for executions known to cause suffering *should* be used, not avoided, as those executions are for crimes that likely caused the victims and their families and friends to suffer.

The media should never be given, nor expect, information on strategy or plans that the military will take, or has taken. The enemy should never know you're coming.

Justice isn't adequately satisfied by prison sentences. Not taken into account partially or at all are:
1. restitution to the victim(s).
2. the cost to the victim to recover mentally, physically, emotionally, etc.
3. consideration to the families of the accused and victims (sometimes they're both).
4. the cost to the authorities to prosecute.
5. the cost to the authorities to patrol, investigate, pursue, catch, etc.
6. the cost to the authorities and the accused to rehabilitate and reengage with society.
Etc.

Too often the prosecutors only look for a conviction without consideration for other compromises that will satisfy some of the above issues.
